Ritual Tools



Are items we use in our Rituals for instance: Book of Shadows, Candles, Censer of Incense, Chalice, Athame. A Goddess and God symbol also.

ALL RITUAL TOOLS SHOULD BE CONSECRATED!




Athame
Generally the Athame is a black-handled, two-edged knife with a blade of any metal. However, any knife which suits the purpose and which speaks to you would be acceptable. The Athame is used to represent the God, or as representing the element of fire. The Athame is used as a means of directing focused energy, such as when casting a circle.

Book Of Shadows
The Book of Shadows or BOS is a book that holds your spells, meditations, rituals, recipes and anything else you want to put in it.




Chalice
Placed in the West to represent the element of Water, the chalice can also be the symbol of the Goddess. It may be filled with water, or with other drink that is appropriate to the celebration. Any cup can serve as a Chalice which appeals to the celebrant.


Besom
The Besom or Broom is a sacred item to the Crone. The besom may be used for ritual cleansing and purifying the area. The Besom lying horizontally isthought to represent a doorway into another existence. Jumping of the besom at handfasting. The besom normally leans against the West sid of the altar if it is to be used during ritual.




The Bell
Rarely used, the bell is used to summon or dismiss. It can be rung to gain attention of the Spiritworld. You can use the bell sometimes at Samhain.


The Cauldron
The cauldron is used for many things in the Wiccan Tradition.




Bowl of Salt or Earth
Placed in the North to represent the element of Earth. Should change the salt at least monthly.


Candle
Represents the element of fire and is placed in the South on your altar.




Incense
Used to represent the element of Air and placed in the East. The various scents and blends of incense add another layer to the particular working. Use a scent which represents the element traditional to a particular holiday. Or use a scent for working a Spell.
